Career Highlights: 2003 USA champion; 9th at 2003 World Championships; 1994 & 1995 NAIA champion; 1995 NAIA runner-up in shot put.
Brown qualified for his second World Outdoor Championships team with his third place finish at the 2005 USA Outdoor Championships in Carson, Calif. He led the field in discus throw qualifying at the 2004 Olympic Trials. Carl surprised the field by winning the 2003 USA Outdoor title, where he defeated three-time U.S. champion Adam Setliff with a throw of 218-8.
His breakthrough 2003 campaign ended with him owning three of the top four throws by an American. ARCO director Brooks Johnson saw Carl training, and recognized his potential and quickness in the throwing ring. Brown earned himself a spot at Chula Vista, and his discipline has paid off. The only two-time NAIA national champion in the history of athletics at Siena Heights. Carl was the first athlete to win back-to-back national titles in the discus in 1994 and 1995 at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
